What?

The Brooklyn Classical Guitar Society open mic events provide an opportunity for all classical guitarists, musicians, and music lovers alike to get together to socialize and share music in a laid-back and welcoming environment.

Classical guitarists are welcome to stop by to play an 8 minute or less set or come to listen and support the other players! All ages and levels are welcome. If you don’t play classical guitar or don’t feel like playing, we highly encourage you to come by anyway. These events are always a good time.

Performer sign-ups are programmed as a first come first served basis. Sign up by the Sunday before the scheduled open mic. Any performers that do not make the program will be added to the waitlist. Performers on the waitlist are still encouraged to attend in case we have time!

Every open mic starts with a “Warm-Up” exercise that is composed or arranged by and for members of the group. These are meant to be easy but interesting sight-readable ensemble pieces to get our fingers moving. Here’s an example of a warm-up written by Paul Sessoms (there are more on our channel, too!)

Interested in writing a warm-up for one of our open mics? Get in touch.

After the warm-up we’ll have the open mic in two halves with an intermission and reception afterwards.

The open mics are free for everyone, BYOB, and/or BYOSnacks!

The BKCGS Open Mic is sponsored, in part, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC).

The BKCGS Open Mic is also sponsored by Augustine Strings.

Who?

Professional, amateur, and student classical guitarists of all ages and levels are welcome to perform! Other musicians and music lovers are encouraged to attend and listen to the incredible musicians in the Brooklyn and NYC community.
